Familiars:
Burn the European Fire-Bellied Toad
Assigned to him by the school, Burn has been Spyro's primary deliverer for letters addressed to Ire. And nowadays, would be extremely affronted at the idea of being replaced for this task by a certain magical dragonfly. Occasionally the dragon allows them to hitch a ride, so people are allowed to be wary about any remnants of Burn's mildly irritating poison on Spyro's scales. His favorite food seems to be dragonflies. Yes, there was an attempt to eat Sparx. It went very badly.
Sparx the Dragonfly
A magical dragonfly from Spyro's world and constant companion whenever they're not split apart by magical forces. Dragonflies protect Spyro's branch of dragonkind with their power once they reach adolescence, bonded until their partner dragon's full adulthood. They live far longer than their mundane cousins, but it's a short, yet cherished footnote compared to mighty fire-breathers who scarcely blink at a few centuries passing.
Sparx can shoot small pellets of energy that hurt as much as a bee sting at its worst but is fairly formidable against anything the size of a lobster or less. He's also strong enough to smash through wicker baskets and fetch fist-sized gems.
His strongest and primary ability however is to shield Spyro from harm at the cost of his own constitution; losing his shining glow after one hit, turning blue after the second use, then green, and finally going completely grey (as well as on the verge of passing out). It's nothing some food can't help with, but Spyro knowing how to make his scales impenetrable through Ire's teaching helps in looking after the headstrong youngling. His favorite food is butterflies, with magical fodder butterflies being an extra tasty bonus, but plenty of other insects do in a pinch.
Special Connections:
Ire, the Outcast
Dragons terrify people, as a rule, being... well... dragons. And so Spyro had a nightmarish time in the Tenscore Kingdoms upon his arrival, what with the pitchforks and torches and the monster slayers.
Fortunately, solidarity comes with species; the great and ancient dragon Ire, known as the Outcast for his refusal to join in the Scourge of Gaole- took Spyro under his wing and undertook to deliver him to the Magicademy. Ire remains accessible through his own mysterious methods, and a familiar-delivered letter never fails to reach him somehow.
Gregory Iron-Arms
A famed competitor in the Night Shift's ring, Gregory enjoyed the chance to have a couple of rounds with an actual dragon. Once the staff managed to free the pair from the floor after he suplexed Spyro so hard they were both stuck, he bought him a drink and struck up a conversation. A dock-worker by trade, Gregory only stays in that line of work to keep in shape; his true calling is the late-night brawls.
Abilities:
Fire Breath
Bacon Breath
Limited Flight
Summon Sea Salt Ice Cream
Inventory:
Wand
Accoustic Guitar
Valhudor-themed Scarf (red and orange stripes)
Electric Demon Guitar
Item of Power: Shifty Mirror (The fruit of your very own labors!)
A mirror Headmaster Birony gifted to Spyro after some further experiments with the shapechanging circles that, when looked upon, can reflect one's visage in a number of different ways depending on their imagination and creativity. After stepping through the glass, which has a liquid mercury sort of effect, they emerge back out in the form and shape imagined!
(Just don't overuse it, it gets weird, and a trainer might mistake you for a Ditto. Hm.)
